As a believer, quiet time looks different for everyone. Some people prefer the mornings, Hot cup of coffee in hand and worship music playing in the background. Whatever they can use to disconnect from the distractions of this world and truly connect with their father. For me, my most spiritually connected quiet times are when I am outside. A beach house porch with a glimpse of the water, somewhere I can hear the morning birds chirping. I have always felt more connected to the Lord surrounded by His creation. I’ve never really questioned why, until last week.
How much more does he love us, how much more does he care for us? These thoughts rippled through my head last week as I got to explore Wyoming with my family. Every corner we turned in Yellowstone National Park looked like a postcard of God’s handiwork, untouched by human hands. Ahead of the trip my dad sent me a travel guide book about the area that has inspired a lot of my thoughts today. The book gives a lot of insight to first time travelers, but it also uses Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons as evidence of the Bible, The Great Flood and God as our Creator. I highly reccommend it to anyone who plans to visit Yellowstone, I’ve linked the book at the bottom of this page!
In one of the last chapters of the book the authors are comparing the Creation belief system and the Evolution system. It states “If the Genesis flood is an historical reality, these parks tell a very different story than the standard evolutionary model suggets, If the flood account is true, which the evidence clearly supports, Then man is confronted with a creator – a Creator who tells us in Psalm 19 that His glory is declared by His handiwork.”
The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring of the work of His hands Psalm 19:1
So as I gazed upon every mountain top, lake, river, wildflower, valley and wild animal I was reminded of the vastness of His love, not just for His people but His Creation. I was reminded of His intentionality in everything He touches.
Consider the birds of the sky: they dont sow or reap or gather into barns, yet our heavenly father feeds them. Arent you worth more than they? Can any of you add one moment to his life span by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the wildflowers of the field grow: They dont labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these. If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, wont he do much more for you – you of little faith? Matthew 6: 26-30
His vast and beautiful creation is not just a comparison used in this verse to combat anxiety. It is a living and moving example of our Gods magesty with a sole purpose to point our hearts back to our Creator. God didn’t have to make the Earth as beautiful as it is. When Sin entered the earth in the garden He could have abandoned this creation, allow the beauty and splendor to slip away with every passing day. Knowing full well that it would pass and a new heaven and earth would be created in due time. But He didnt, still thousands of years later, the beauty’s of this earth cry out to the evidence of a creator. A Creator who deeply loves and tends to all of His handowork.
Momentary pause to reflect on the beauty of this waterfall. A waterfall that is completely untouched by human interferance and simply speaks to the existence of a God who values every little detail.
If God adorns this sinful world that will one day come to pass with the majesty that He does, who am I to think He isnt taking care of me? Who am I to doubt Him? Who am I to sit at His feet and ask for blessing after blessing, when He’s already given me so much. The magnitude of His creation humbled me to this very question. Who am I?
God begs the question How much more do I love and care for you when I still care for the flowers of the field and the birds of the sky. His creation boasts of the love of its Creator. Never needing anything and overflowing in splendor and goodness and God looks at it and says, Child, I love you more.
I think it’s very easy to get caught up in the day to day comparisons of this world and question God. She got engaged, He got that promotion, they bought a house, She got the sorority I wanted, etc. There is an overwhelming sense of helplessness when we feel as though God has forgotten us. It can feel impossible to break the chains of the lies the devil is holding over you. I encourage you to take note of how God so carefully crafted nature to be a beautiful reflection of his handiwork. And then remember “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
The same God that created the beauty in all of these pictures created us. Scripture tells us we are his handiwork, created for Good works, and created for a specific time. If He can create beauty and splendor and provide every need for a world that He plans to destroy, won’t he do immeasurably more for you. His precious child that He loves and adores and plans to spend eternity with?
So who am I? Who are we to question the perplexity and intentionality that is the way the Lord takes care of His children. Because one look outside our window is proof that He will. He will provide exceedingly and immeasurably more than we can ask for. How undeserving are we of a God who cares so deeply for even the flowers of the field.
